Why You Should Drink More Green Tea

Whether you’re looking to cut back on your coffee intake or simply make healthier choices, drinking more green tea is a great way to make it happen. Per cup, you’re still getting roughly 50 milligrams of caffeine, but you’re also going to see a slew of other health and exercise benefits. Here are four areas you’ll see green tea’s benefits …

#1. Weight Loss

Not to pat ourselves on the back or anything, but taking P4’s potent and tasty Energy Drink Formula during a training session is a great in-workout habit to develop. Why? For one, it’s delicious. Two, it contains caffeine, KarboLyn® (a fast-digesting carb), and green tea extracts. (It can also be usedas a pre-workout supplement. You know, if you’ve run out of P4’s Pre GameFormula.)

A recent study showed that green tea extracts are a great pre-workout supplement for people who want to shed excess pounds. The research concluded that subjects who took the green tea extract burned 17 percent more fat during a cardio-heavy training session than those who did not take it. A separate Dutch study cited in Men’s Fitness credited green tea with igniting thermogenesis (the production of heat) and the control of weight management. How? The epigallocatechin gullet (EGCG) was shown to increase resting metabolism and ignite your fat-burning furnace.

#2. Cholesterol Management

A University of Maryland Medical Center study found that green tea has the ability to lower total cholesterol while raising HDL — the “ good” cholesterol. One theory as to why this occurs is due to the tea’s ability to block cholesterol from being absorbed in the intestines.

#3. Immune System Function

A 2007 study found that over a five-week period, stressed out individuals — i.e. you — who received 1,000 milligrams of the antioxidant quercetin were less likely to contract respiratory illnesses compared to subjects who were given a placebo. In fact, 45 percent of those who ingested placebos got sick. Only five percent of the people who took the green tea fell ill.

#4. Post-Workout Relaxation

Another P4 sports supplement — Recovery Push Formula — helps initiate recovery after a grueling workout. That’s critical for your muscles to rebuild and rejuvenate. In addition to Recovery Push Formula’s benefits, consider sipping on green tea post-workout for its ability to help induce relaxation. The amino acid theanine, which is naturally found in green tea, has a calming effect on the body. More relaxation can lead to more sleep, and that’s when your body truly recovers.
